In the late summer of 2016, unsuspecting 70-year old retired patent attorney, Dr Peter Draggett from York, began to notice a “high pitch buzzing”.
It was awful, it just came on suddenly.
“I think a number of things contributed to the tinnitus, I had high frequency hearing loss, and was taking the pain relief Naproxen which has been linked to tinnitus, but I was also stressed.”
“The noise made concentrating almost impossible and I was beginning to lose sleep. But when I went to my GP they told me there was no treatment available for me.” Frustrated at the lack of help from his GP, Peter began researching other possibilities and found The Tinnitus Clinic.”
“It was a relief to know there were other options out there, you don’t just have to live with it.”
Peter was treated with Tinnitus Desensitisation Therapy™ (TDT) by Audiologist, Mike Wells at The Tinnitus Clinic in Leeds. TDT, a procedure designed for the clinic, works with a process known has habituation in which the brain is trained to filter out the tinnitus sounds.
The Clinic also supports TDT treatment with relaxation exercises, behavioural therapy and Tinnitus psychodynamic counselling.
“The TDT treatment was excellent and, Mike, my audiologist, has been so patient and helped every step of the way.”
My tinnitus has effectively disappeared now.
“It occasionally remerges in stressful situations, but it tends to only be unobtrusive background noise.”
“My advice to any other sufferers would be to contact The Tinnitus Clinic as soon as possible.”
