Treating your tinnitus while you sleep

The new Levo® Therapy System for tinnitus

If you have tinnitus which is hissing or rushing, very low or very high in pitch, then Levo® Therapy System for Tinnitus may be right for you.

Levo® Therapy System for Tinnitus has been developed by the team at Otoharmonics® Corporation who are based in Portland, Oregon, USA. It is an FDA cleared and CE approved sound-based therapy which works with the brain’s natural plasticity to help the brain get used to, or habituate, to the tinnitus sound within the hearing centre of the brain.

The Tinnitus Clinic is introducing Levo for patients who have atonal tinnitus or tinnitus that is very high or very low in pitch (<200Hz or >10000Hz). Levo is also specifically designed to be used during sleep when our brains are more prone to be responsive to sound therapies that strive to change brain activity patterns.

This innovative approach to treating tinnitus has been demonstrated to provide relief from symptoms, sometimes within as short a period of time as 30 days. (Pedemonte et al 2010, Drexler et al 2015). The Levo System is available exclusively in the UK only at The Tinnitus Clinic and its partners.

Levo is specifically designed to be used during sleep when our brains are more prone to be responsive to sound therapies that strive to change brain activity patterns. The system enables patients to map their specific tinnitus sound, or ‘sound print’, in order to create a personalised sound therapy.

The personalised therapy sound is presented to the patient while they are asleep via an iPod device using a tailor-made proprietary ear phone system which is designed to be slept in. This stimulates the hearing centre of the brain with the goal to encourage habituation to the tinnitus sound and reduce the perceptual loudness / annoyance of the tinnitus signal. Improvements in tinnitus symptoms are tracked over time, which is motivating for the patient and provides useful guidance for the clinician.

Who is suitable for Levo?

People over 18 years of age who have primary tinnitus, and who have sufficient hearing to be able to hear the sounds produced by Levo while not wearing a hearing aid at night are most likely to be suitable for Levo.

Our Initial Assessment process will identify your tinnitus type. If during your initial assessment, it is found you are not suitable for Levo, we will offer you an alternative treatment.
